Muskowekwan Historical Site (Historically known as Muscowequan Indian Residential School)
The last standing former residential school in Saskatchewan, and one of a relative few remaining in Canada is located on Muskowekwan First Nation, Treaty 4 territory, near Lestock, Saskatchewan. The residential school closed June 1997 after 111 years of operation.
On behalf of the Muskowekwan leadership, Historical Site Group and the membership of Muskowekwan, we are honoured to stand in prayer, extend support and continued commitment to creating sacred spaces for healing. We acknowledge all Nations, Elders, Chiefs, Knowledge Keepers, Survivors, Former Students, Descendants, Community Champions and Organizers. As individuals, families and nations on this path to Truth and Reconciliation, creating a sacred space for sharing is vital on this journey for truth, healing and understanding.
